Synonyms: Tabebuia avellanedae, Handroanthus avellanedae, H. impetiginosus
Common Names: taheebo, pau d’arco, ipê, ipê roxo, lapacho
Taheebo/Pau d’Arco is a large canopy tree native to the Amazon rainforest and other tropical parts of South America. It grows to 30 meters high and the base of the tree can be 2-3 meters in diameter.
The common names taheebo, pau d’arco, ipê roxo and lapacho are used for several different species of Tabebuia trees that are used interchangeably in herbal medicine systems. Tabebuia impetiginosa is the preferred species employed in herbal medicine, however, it is often referred to by its other botanical name, Tabebuia avellanedae. Both refer to the same tree.
Taheebo Tea, or Pau d’Arco Tea, is derived from the inner bark of the Tabebuia impetiginosa or Tabebuia avellanedae tree. To extract the active chemicals within Taheebo requires the decoction method of brewing – boiling the bark for at least 15 minutes.
The tea has a long and well-documented history of use by the indigenous people of South America, many reports predating the Incas. South American tribes living thousands of miles apart have employed it for the same medicinal purposes for hundreds of years, including malaria, anemia, colitis, respiratory problems, colds, cough, flu, fungal infections, fever, arthritis and rheumatism, snakebite, poor circulation, boils, syphilis, and cancer.

Taheebo Tea Folklore & Worldwide Use
The native Indians of South American countries have used Taheebo/Pau d’Arco for thousands of years. The Guarani and Tupi-Nambo tribes, in particular, used great quantities of Taheebo Tea.
Several South American tribes have used Taheebo wood for centuries to make their hunting bows. The tribes called the Taheebo tree Tajy, meaning to have strength and vigour, or simply, The Divine Tree. They used the bark as a tea or tonic to treat many different conditions for the same strength and vigour it provided their bows.
Legends say that the Vikings sold the tea and believed that it originated on the moon. The Czars of Russia reportedly drank Taheebo Tea, and even Gandhi supposedly was a faithful drinker of a daily cup. The South American Indians shared the tea with early Portuguese and Spanish settlers who further spread its use.
A few of the many examples and folklore uses of Taheebo Tea: Costa Ricans take a decoction of Taheebo tea for the treatment of colds, headaches, fever and constipation. In Panama, the Taheebo bark is used as a treatment for boils, dysentery and wounds. In Guatemala, a Taheebo tea decoction of the bark is regularly given to dogs as a protection against rabies. Mexicans make a tea with the bark and leaves to reduce temperatures in fevers. Columbians use the Taheebo bark as either an infusion or decoction as a gargle for diseases of the throat and for fevers. The Bolivian Kallawaya believe that the tea purifies the blood.
Taking Taheebo in a decocted tea form — boiling the bark for at least 15 minutes — is an excellent way to ensure all the active properties are released and ingested. See our recommended brewing method
The bark and wood of the tree are used externally and internally for arthritis, pain, inflammation of the prostate gland, fever, dysentery, boils and ulcers, and various cancers. One of the easiest ways to use Pau d’Arco is by consuming a tea made from the inner bark…By Christine Ruggeri, CHHC – Read More on DrAxe.com
Our Taheebo Wellness Tea
Our Taheebo Wellness Tea is pure inner bark of the Tabebuia impetiginosa/avellanedae species of the Taheebo tree (aka Pau d’Arco tree) from Brazil. We offer our Taheebo Tea in fine tea grind, not commonly found on the market today. When brewed properly, this results in a more concentrated tea.
Our partner is one of the top botanical companies in Brazil, approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Health, regarding both sources of supply and industrial processing. The Brazilian Ministry of the Environment, IBAMA, also inspects and certifies authenticity of our tea. Upon arrival in the USA, the tea is inspected once again by US Customs and the FDA.

Definitely have been drinking this tea every day. I quit drinking alcohol recently and for some reason when I crave a glass of wine and drink this I find it curbs the desire for alcohol. Not sure if it’s just a head thing or if it really does cure my cravings, but for that reason alone I’ll keep drinking this. The other health benefits are definitely an added bonus!
My health development doctor recommended this tea and this site specifically. He told me to drink 3-4 cups a day for my specific health issues. At first I was not prepared for the strong taste. But mixing it with some non-dairy, no sugar creamer, some sunflower lecithin or MCT oil and making it a latte did the trick for me. Now I LOVE this tea. Have fixed it for friends this way and they request it now when they visit.
This tea is excellent, probably my favorite tea. Love it. Highly recommend.
A doctor recommended I drink this tea for pain in my liver area. I've been drinking it, off and on, for a few months and have noticed a reduction in symptoms. It seems to give me more balanced energy during the day as if it is supporting my body to be well. It has soothed my throat when needed. My aunt was just diagnosed with breast cancer so I sent it to her, knowing that taheebo, also known as pau d'arco, is good for cancer pain based on information found in The Little Herb Encyclopedia by Jack Ritchason (fabulous book!) I will continue to reorder, thank you Melissa and Julian!
Taheebo Wellness offers an excellent tea with a fine grind that enables the essence of the herb to saturate the tea when brewing. I usually have 2 cups/day and brew 2 days batch by bringing about 5 cups water in a glass or ceramic pot with about 4 Tablespoons of the taheebo tea to a boil, then simmer for about 30 minutes and strain. I keep the leftover in a glass mason jar. When drinking this tea regularly one really notices its powerful cleansing properties. I now recommend this tea as one of the best things to keep your detox/immune system strong (a great anti-covid prevention!) One also feels "clearer" mentally (if one is used to brain fog). Great for candida, fungal issues. I got used to it now and its a mainstay of my health routine. Tip: if you can take it without any sweetener, I think its best like this. If not, try adding some drops of NOW foods organic monk's fruit liquid (one of the few sweeteners permitted for candida or fungal issues)
I started drinking the tea last week. It has a very strong, earthy taste yet pleasant. I may have to adjust my brewing method. I use just a little, little bit of Splenda to curve the taste just a smidge. I drink my coffee black, so I'm sure I will acquire the pallet for the straight stuff real soon, I drink mine cold, its really refreshing. I haven't noticed any changes in my health yet. However, I am sleeping better. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing product.
I am a healthy, happy person so I can’t say that I noticed a drastic difference in my health however, I was suffering some mild sciatica which subsided in three days after starting to drink my taheebo tea. This is a fine ground tea and the tea is tasty with an unusual flavor. I like it with mint and a little honey. Aside from all the health benefits, it is also a tasty drink.
Delicious and soothing, I love it!
This tea is great! I've been drinking it for a couple weeks now as a treatment for a benign tumor (about 4 cups per day). While I haven't seen much change with the tumor yet, I can tell my health is improving and I am detoxing quite a bit. Looking forward to ordering another bag and seeing more progress!
I prefer this brand above all others for taste, strength and effectiveness. So glad I purchased it, and the customer service is excellent!
We started drinking the tea 2 weeks ago. My varicose veins are not as noticeable. I have a general feeling of increased wellness. My husband feels it is making a difference in his overall health as well. We each drink 4 ounces morning and evening. Great product!
I have Fibromyalgia and Ankylosing Spondylitis. The tea definitely helps my pain. I can walk around my complex again. Thank you much!
I've used other Pau D'arco teas, but this beats them all. I noticeably felt better after a week of drinking this tea 2-3 times a day. Will keep drinking!
I just started my tea. I am still on one cup every other day. Yes, it is strong but it's good with Splenda. I will soon increase to two cups maybe diluting it a little to suit taste but not too much. I want to get the good effects.
My prior Pao d'arco tea wasn't helping so I decided to try this Taheebo tea. It is very strong. I have had to work my way up on the dosage. Will update review after my second order experience.
My wife and I are drinking Taheebo tea every day and we love it with milk and monk fruit sweetener. Thank you so much for the wonderful tea! Lots of people don’t prefer the bark-type taste but we add a bit of sweetness to it and milk and we enjoy it very much! It’s so healthy for you so it's worth the taste!
This tea has helped my husband with his arthritis. Just finishing the first bag and we are impressed with how it has helped him! Great product!
Our current health journey had been rounded out so nicely by adding the tea to it for a daily dose of antioxidants and amazing flavor! Brewing is a snap and I feel I get the full benefits from each batch by using a longer method of steeping than I would’ve known to do otherwise. Still on our first bag but will order again!
We bought the Taheebo Tea because it is natural and had great reviews. I have diabetes, but after drinking the tea a few weeks, I noticed that the discolored area on my leg from the neuropathy had disappeared. I have an appointment in two weeks where they will get my A1C (avg blood sugar over 3 month period). I’ll keep you guys posted.
It's been about two weeks since I drank Taheebo tea. Originally, I had to sleep eight or nine hours at night and take a nap for about an hour to make my daily life possible. But the first chance I've experienced after drinking this tea is that I'm not tired enough to not have to sleep as much sleepless. I'm often tired and absent-minded, so I feel like my work is getting better. And recently, the daily temperature gap has worsened, so I coughed every morning because of a sore throat, but after drinking this tea, the symptoms disappeared a day or two. It's only been about two weeks since I drank this tea, and I'm surprised to see this change. It's more effective than taking expensive nutritional supplements. I will continue to drink. I'm 27 years old and I don't want to get sick even when I get older. I'm so happy to know Taheebo at a young age.
Great tea!!! It is very tasty. I drink 3 cups per day and love it. I have more energy. I have used one pouch and will order more.
Even for one with low energy and many challenges, this Taheebo Wellness Tea is easy to make and drink! Julien was very supportive and responsive on the phone, telling me of his experience and supporting me on my wellness journey. To your wellness!
We have used this tea to heal skin issues, to heal wounds, and to clean the blood internally nightly taken just before bed. The new providers offer the exact same quality as Herb-Care formerly did. It is some of the best available for purchase online, very potent and very effective. We are now using it to combat stage 1 cancer in an elderly family member, with so far extremely promising results. This is three large mugs per day one at daybreak, one around noon, one just before sleep. This is coupled with a very clean 90+% plant zero fat diet. I reorder constantly to keep enough in stock for all of us. Thank you!!
I have been using this tea for one month now. I am not normally a tea drinker but I think this tea tastes Delicious. I will be ordering a second round soon.
Wow, taste great once I figured out the brewing method. My energy level is better. I drink twice a day as preventive for all things I don't want. I have back issues, seems to help with inflammation. Been drinking for 1 month. Will reorder. Thanks!
I’ve been drinking 1-2 cups of strong tea per day. I make it at least triple strength. I’ve had problems with candida overgrowth and likely gut bacterial community issues that probably go back to intense childhood antibiotics to stop ear infections. In addition to digestive issues (IBS), I get some strange symptoms that include facial/neck tics that I find uncomfortable and socially distressing. Ramping up the tea strength and dosage has pulled my symptoms way back and I’m now looking to find the right maintenance dose, having also cut out sugars and alcohol.
I had read about this tea, but really wanted to get a product that was good quality, and so I ordered it and just started brewing/drinking it about a week ago. I have breast cancer which sometimes can be very painful where the tumor is. I remembered reading something about Taheebo tea easing pain from cancer and broke out the bag! Honest to God, the first three times I drank this tea beginning last week it was because I wanted to see if it would help with pain I was having at the time. I was completely floored to find that it stopped my pain within a minute or so, each time! I’m going to continue to drink the tea, that told me all I needed to know about its quality. I also really love the taste, I mix it with macadamia milk and some stevia. It has also replaced coffee for me, which I know I don’t need. Thanks for putting such a great product out there, and for sharing your own story. I’m hopeful that all the things I’m doing to heal plus this tea will keep me on a good path to wellness.
Perfect 5 star product! Perfect 5 star customer service. I’ve ordered from another supplier in the past, and Taheebo Wellness Tea is good, and I think, superior to another such tea I’d ordered in the past, from another supplier. The tea is more finely and evenly sized, boils evenly, and is easy to filter. With the first batch of tea I brewed, the lift it gave was a happy reminder of why I’d ordered it to begin with. Just as in the past, joint pain and abdominal discomfort was instantly much diminished. Thanks Taheebo Tea for providing this product
I started drinking this tea a few weeks ago, the taste surprised and delighted me! I was expecting something terrible tasting and I discovered that i enjoy the taste. I had to quit drinking coffee and this reminds me of that. I've had several questions Julien and Melissa responded quickly to all of them. Very nice to work with... Thank you so much!!
We (my husband and I) have been long term consumers of pau d'arco / taheebo tea, we take it now as a preventative against any ailments, colds etc however my husband battled back from stage four cancer and we credit this amazing tea as a main factor in his recovery. The tea offered here is the exact same tea that HerbCare in Canada used to offer, premium quality and the correct cut to brew the most potent tea if someone is using it to fight a serious condition. I highly recommend trying this tea. P.s. my husband is alive and well today nineteen years after being told he had six months to live!
We got Taheebo Wellness tea from Julien and Melissa before leaving California. When we got home I kept noticing that I don't have any cravings. After I put the dots together I realized that this is exactly when we started to drink the tea. My partner also noticed feeling really calm and equanimous. It took away dips into low mood, driving wasn't stressful, gave more alert hours during the day, overall presence increased. I also noticed special attention was going towards preparing and drinking the tea, a precious gift. We tried making a tea from pao d'arco bark I found we had at home and it wasn't the same at all! Taheebo Wellness Tea has a rich taste, sweet and bitter notes, and a very pleasant and comforting aroma. Thank you to Julian and Melissa for bringing it to North America.
