For a lot of people, the afternoon cup is a habit as much as a drink. The pause, the warm mug, something to hold while the day winds down. Taheebo tea fits that slot well, and it has no caffeine.

Why people look for a coffee replacement

Some people want fewer cups of coffee, some want a caffeine-free coffee alternative for the afternoon, and some just want a different routine. Others are looking for a coffee replacement they can drink hot or iced, any time of day. For reference, the FDA says that for most healthy adults, up to 400 milligrams of caffeine a day is not generally associated with negative effects, and that people who are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding should talk with a healthcare provider about caffeine. Taheebo tea is caffeine-free, so it works as a coffee alternative at any hour.

What it tastes like

Taheebo tea is pure bark, so the taste is mild, earthy and slightly woody. Expect a different cup than coffee. Many people enjoy it as is, and you can add honey, lemon or another natural sweetener if you like. If you want something closer to a coffee-shop drink, our creamy MCT oil recipe is the one many customers say tastes like coffee.

A simple weekly routine

  1. Brew once a week. We like to make about 3 quarts at a time. The amounts and times are on our brewing instructions page.
  2. Refrigerate it. Brewed tea keeps 7 to 8 days in the refrigerator.
  3. Pour over ice, or heat a mug. Iced with fresh lemon is refreshing in warm weather. In cooler months, heat a mug and add a little honey.
  4. Make it a habit. Pick the time of day you used to reach for another coffee and put the pitcher where you will see it.

Which bark for your afternoon cup?

If you like a stronger, fuller cup, choose Fine Grind, which brews a more concentrated tea and needs a fine mesh filter. If you prefer a lighter cup, choose Coarse Cut, which works with any filter. Both use the same amount of bark per batch. Our Fine Grind vs. Coarse Cut guide has a side-by-side comparison.

What it costs

One pouch makes about 100 cups. That works out to about $0.44 per cup including shipping on a single pouch, or about $0.39 per cup with free US shipping on orders of 2 or more pouches.

Good to know

Taheebo tea is a traditional drink, not a medicine. Pregnant women should avoid it, and anyone taking medications or with a health condition should check with a healthcare provider before adding a new herbal tea to their routine.
