Taheebo Tea Pau d'Arco Brewing Instructions

Taheebo Tea, or Pau d’Arco Tea, is derived from the inner bark of the Tabebuia impetiginosa or Tabebuia avellanedae tree and is prepared as a decoction, meaning it is gently simmered rather than steeped. This method is essential for proper preparation and is different from how most herbal teas are made.

Why This Matters

Most herbal teas are made from leaves or flowers and release quickly when steeped in hot water. Taheebo tea is made from tree bark, which is denser and requires sustained, gentle heat to soften and release into the water.

Simply pouring hot water over the bark will result in a weak, incomplete brew. Slow simmering allows the tea to develop its characteristic color and flavor in a balanced way.

What You'll Need

  • Taheebo Wellness Tea (Fine Grind or Coarse Cut)

  • Water

  • Stainless steel or glass pot

  • Fine mesh strainer or regular strainer

Fine Grind vs Coarse Cut - What is the Difference?

☕ Our FINE GRIND Taheebo Wellness Tea is pure inner bark, and prepared in a fine tea grind, not commonly found on the market today. When brewed properly, this grind brews a stronger and more potent Taheebo Tea. We recommend this fine mesh filter for our Fine Grind Tea.

☕ Our COARSE CUT TEA is a limited batch. It is exactly the same tree bark as our Fine Grind tea, and differs only in the size/shape of the bark (Coarse Cut is small shreds/sticks of Taheebo bark, while Fine Grind is finely ground bark). A fine mesh filter is not necessary for this style.

We recommend our Coarse Cut tea for those who prefer a lighter brew. And the Fine Grind tea for those who are drinking Taheebo for chronic conditions.

If you don't like the taste of Taheebo tea on it's own, you may choose to follow some of our Taheebo recipes.

Taheebo Tea / Pau d’Arco Brewing Instructions

1. For FINE GRIND: Measure out 1 quart + 1/2 cup of spring water and add to a stainless steel or glass pot.

For COARSE CUT: Measure out 1 quart + 1 cup of spring water and add to a stainless steel or glass pot.

2. Add 3 tablespoons of either FINE GRIND or COARSE CUT Taheebo Wellness Tea to the water.

3. Bring liquid to a full boil with a lid on the pot.

4. Reduce heat and cook covered at a gentle rolling boil for 25 minutes (extend rolling boil to 30 minutes for our coarse cut bark).

5. For FIND GRIND Taheebo, we recommend using this fine mesh filter.

For COARSE CUT Taheebo, pour through a strainer into heat safe glass bottles or pitchers.

Let cool, cap and refrigerate.
If you plan to drink it within 3 days, refrigeration may not be necessary for many households. For best freshness, refrigerate and enjoy within 8 days

6. We like to prepare 3 quarts at a time, storing in the refrigerator for easy drinking throughout the week.
