Taheebo tea is made from bark, and a small amount of care keeps both the dry bark and the brewed tea at their best. Here is what we do at home and what we recommend.
How long does brewed Taheebo tea last?
We get asked this question often, and the answer is simple: store brewed tea in the refrigerator and drink it within 7 to 8 days. Let it cool, pour it into a clean container with a lid, and refrigerate. If it ever smells or tastes off, discard it.
You can brew a big batch once a week so a glass is always ready. We like to prepare about 3 quarts at a time. The amounts for Fine Grind and Coarse Cut are on our brewing instructions page.
How should I store the dry bark?
Keep your Taheebo Wellness Tea sealed in a cool, dark, dry place. We like to move the bark into a glass mason jar and keep it in the pantry. The compostable resealable pouch it comes in works just as well. Properly stored, the dry bark keeps its quality for 2 years or more.
That is useful to know because one pouch makes about 100 cups. At two cups a day a pouch lasts about 50 days, and at three cups a day about 33 days.
Can I use the bark twice?
You can re-brew the same bark once, and the second brew will be noticeably weaker. If you do, simmer it for 25 to 30 minutes, which is a little longer than the first brew. Expect a lighter color and a milder taste. Some people combine the first and second brews into one pitcher.
For the strongest cup, we recommend fresh bark each time.
A quick storage checklist
- Brewed tea: cool, cover, refrigerate, drink within 7 to 8 days.
- Dry bark: sealed container, cool, dark, dry place.
- Second brew: once only, longer simmer, milder cup.
- Anything that smells or tastes off: throw it out.
